As the picture to the left shows, the changes to Burns High’s track and football field that former WyoSports reporter Alex Riley detailed in this award-winning explanatory story are underway.Construction crews are removing the old field, track and curbing. They will raise the field so that it will drain properly and then install a new grass field, eight-lane track, press box and bleachers, Burns athletics director Barry Ward said.

Here’s the rub: The project should be ready by the 2015 track season. Where will the football team play its home games this coming fall?

“We don’t know that yet,” Ward said in an email.

The Broncs will undoubtedly find a home before they host Newcastle on Sept. 12. Hopefully everyone involved keeps the bigger picture of vastly improved facilities in mind while dealing with the inconvenience of playing elsewhere this fall.
