CHEYENNE — Cheyenne East senior Jasmine Madsen is new to her school’s rivalry with Cheyenne Central, but it didn’t take long for her to have an impact on it.
The exchange student from Denmark scored the game-winning penalty kick in Friday’s 2-1 win at Riske Field.
“When I was watching the basketball and football games, you could see that people were working extra hard and you could see how they really fought for the win,” Madsen said. “This was my first East-Central game and, when you’re in it, you can really feel that intensity.
“The whole game, the pressure lays on you because it’s such a big game.”
Madsen learned about how passionate people are about the East-Central rivalry shortly after arriving in the Capital City.
“People told me, ‘If you go to East, you don’t like Central and if you go to Central, you don’t like East. That’s just how it is,’” she said. “That was pretty clear from when I first came here.”
East coach Jim Gardner said Madsen is a very technically skilled player and will be a good complement to sophomore Rachel Erickson at forward.
